Steve Foldesi | 23 June 2011I just took delivery of my new Honda Euro Luxury Nav. I am most disappointed by the quality of the graphics and the absence of features such as road speed and speed alarm, cameras, blind spots, etc. For a $3000 or so option I expected better than stone age graphics which is what I got when I compare it to the latest TomTom and Navman portables at one tenth the cost. When is the next update DVD coming out and will its graphics catch up with current state of the art?
Hi Steve.
Thanks for your feedback. We thought you might like to know more about the production process for in-car navigation. We supply all our navigation software customers with a generic map database which they can manipulate to their desired format. The map database is updated for in-car navigation roughly every 12 months (depending on the vehicle manufacturer). When we supply the map database, it is then handed over to the navigation manufacturer for their design, including graphics and chosen features. In your case, Alpine – the manufacturer behind Honda’s in-car navigation systems – has chosen not to include alerts and speed notifications. In terms of the next Honda map update, it’s looking like September with Version 18 available via Honda Service Centres.

Thank you for the prompt response. I will now follow up with Alpine. I would not be surprised if the answer will be passing the buck to Honda.

Petar Zadraznik | 21 August 2011I have a Japanese import 2006 Toyota Prado with an Eclipse(Denso)4404D Sat Nav system. The head unit looks exactly like the local Eclipse AVN 6000 model. Would your Denso/Eclipse/Toyota maps be compatible with
this system. I have accessed diagnostic mode on the sat nav in Australia and the unit is receiving GPS signals. Just need you to confirm if the local map formats are compatible before buying. Thanks.
